Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Apothecary by Design?
Apothecary by Design is the modern day version of the neighborhood pharmacy, with unparalleled pharmacy service. Our mission is to help people get – and stay healthy by coordinating care between health care providers, patients, and our pharmacists; advocating on our patients behalf; and by integrating conventional and alternative pharmacy services supported by our dedicated and highly trained clinical team. ABD delivers the right medications, unmatched personalized patient care, educational support, and nutritional health and wellness programs. We also feature a gourmet coffee shop, PeRx-U-Up, serving baked goods and lunch. Click here to download our Apothecary by Design brochure.

2. What makes you different from other pharmacies?
Our focus is on helping our patients feel better, feel healthy and feel confident! Our pharmacy team is willing to take the time to answer your questions, coordinate care with your health care provider and offer guidance and recommendations on wellness programs or nutritional supplements to enhance patient health and complement other prescription medications. In addition to these distinctions, Apothecary by Design offers compounding and specialty pharmacy services, which involve advanced drug therapies, injectable medications and more complex treatment regimens for chronic, complex conditions such as transplant and infertility. In many cases these services are not available at retail chain pharmacies.

3. What is compounding?
Many patients have medical circumstances or unique needs that require a customized delivery system, dosage, strength or formulation of their medication. In these cases, manufactured medications cannot always meet the needs of the patient. Working closely with physicians and healthcare providers, our highly trained compounding pharmacists can create custom tailored prescription compounds designed to meet a patient’s specific requirements. All medications are compounded in our on-site, state of the art laboratory and clean room. Click here to download our brochure and learn more.

4. Are you able to help me understand which nutritional supplements might be right for me?
At Apothecary by Design, our highly educated and experienced nutritional team is an important resource for healthcare providers and patients. Our wellness experts offer guidance on nutritional supplements, as well as the combined use of natural and conventional medicines, including potential drug-nutrient and drug-herb interactions. Our recommendations are based on up-to-date, reliable, scientific information, and we work closely with healthcare providers to devise a personalized nutritional strategy tailored to each patient’s unique needs. We encourage you to come in and talk with us.  Click here to download our brochure and learn more.

5. Are nutritional supplements safe to take if I am taking prescription medications?
While many supplements can be safely used by patients, some products may impact the action or the effect of some prescription medications. Some common drugs, such as cholesterol-lowering statins and antibiotics, are linked to nutrient depletion, making supplements an important part of overall patient care. However, some interactions may be potentially harmful and should be avoided. The targeted use of nutritional supplements can reduce adverse side effects, increase patient comfort and compliance, and improve therapeutic efficacy and clinical outcomes. Our pharmacists and nutraceutical experts will work closely with you and your health care providers to ensure safe supplement interactions.

6. Are your prices competitive?
Apothecary by Design is committed to the highest levels of pharmacy care and competitive pricing for our patients. We offer a range of value-added services for our patients – personal consultation with our pharmacists or nursing staff, free mail delivery of prescription medications, insurance benefit verification and advocacy, as well as compliance and drug interaction monitoring – all at a competitive price. We are also pleased to offer discounted pricing for a 90-day supply on selected generics and a free loyalty program with discounts for non-prescription items and points redeemable for in-store rewards.

7. Do you take my insurance?
Apothecary by Design’s retail pharmacy is enrolled with most major private insurance companies, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.

8. What if you do not have my medication in stock?
If our pharmacy does not have your prescription in stock, we can order that medication for next day delivery and mail the prescription directly to you. In some emergency cases, we may be able to arrange for same day delivery of your medications.

9. Do you deliver?
We offer mail delivery of all prescription medications, at no charge.

10. How do I transfer my prescription?
With your permission we will contact your current pharmacy or physician on your behalf to transfer your prescriptions.
