Shingles

Shingles is a painful virus that affects over 1 million people in the U.S. each year. Over half of those cases occur in individuals 60 years of age and older.

It can affect anyone, without much warning, and cause a painful rash that may lead to long-term nerve pain. Anyone who has ever had the chickenpox (the same virus that causes shingles) can develop the disease, however it is most common in those over the age of 60. (The risks increase with age as well, and 1 out of every 2 people who live to 85 will be affected by the disease.)
